― “Kawakujira” ―
This is a strange word that you may not be familiar with, but it has the meaning of adding glaze to the rim of a bowl to give it strength, and it has been used as a pottery method since ancient times. It got its name because the mouth is covered with an iron glaze that resembles the color of whale skin.

The ``Kawajira'' series pursues modern Mashiko ware, focusing on the traditional technique of ``Kawakujira''.

- Unique glaze -
The "Kawajira" series uses a slightly different glaze than Doso Towada Kiln's other pottery. The yellow color is a recycled glaze made from a mixture of various glazes based on Mashiko traditional glaze, and the blue color is a Gosu glaze.

- A choko that can be used in a wide variety of ways -
It is said that choko was originally used as a sake cup or teacup, but it was used as a soba choko for meals when soba restaurants became popular among the common people at the end of the Edo period.
``Kawajira Choko'' has a slightly rounded shape to give it a gentle impression, and the area other than the mouth rim is expressed with a transparent, medium-white glaze. It has an earthy taste and brings out the color of dishes and drinks.
Another appeal of the choko is its shape and size, which makes it easy to use in a variety of situations. They blend into your daily life as teacups, sake cups, ice cream cups, dessert cups, small bowls, and soup cups.
